Almost every professional I've worked with has said the same thing: "My English is bad. I need to get better." Then, in our sessions, they'd speak clearly and confidently for five, ten minutes straight — no hesitation, no struggle. The exact thing they told me they couldn't do.
At work, though, they became a quieter version of themselves — capable, knowledgeable, and somehow still not sharing the expertise they clearly had. That gap didn't make sense to me, until I started looking at what's actually happening in the brain under pressure, not just at the language itself.
I've seen this from both sides — as someone who's learned a second language myself, and across a background spanning healthcare, higher education, and bilingual teaching in Bogotá. I stay closely connected to the research on what's happening in the brain under pressure, and I'm currently training in neuropsychology to deepen that further.
That's the work I do now: helping multilingual professionals access the expertise they already have, exactly when it matters most.
