Python Coding Challenge

Join us for an exciting Python Coding Challenge at The Zen Den Coworking Tenerife!

This event is designed for Python enthusiasts of all levels who want to learn, share, and collaborate in a creative and friendly environment. Whether you're a seasoned coder or just starting your Python journey, this challenge is a fantastic opportunity to sharpen your skills and meet like-minded people.

The event will be hosted by Simone Giacomelli, an experienced software developer with 30 years of cross-platform expertise. Simone holds an MSc in Artificial Intelligence from USI Lugano and a BSc in Computer Systems and Networks Security from UNIMI Milano. With experience in Python, Kotlin, C#, Java, and more, and a background in startups, Simone will guide you through the challenge, providing advice and sharing his knowledge.

During this Python Coding Challenge, you will have the opportunity to work on a topic of your choice, either in teams or individually. Here are the topics ranked by votes from our participants:

  1. Machine Learning
  2. Web Scraping
  3. Web Development
  4. Automation

Feel free to collaborate or pursue your favourite topic independently. Simone will be available throughout the event to offer pointers and guidance. Here are some suggested ideas for the top two topics:

Machine Learning

  • Image classification
  • Gesture recognition (thumbs up, thumbs down, victory, closed fist, etc.)
  • Use Mozilla Common Voice
  • Employ an LLM for a booking chatbot
  • … You tell me!

Web Scraping

  • Amazon reviews: scrape descriptions and stars
  • Real estate listings scraper
  • Job listings scraper
  • … You tell me!

Event Highlights:

  • Length: 3 hours of coding, with an additional 1-hour buffer to include breaks and networking.
  • Bonus Break: A 20-minute 'break' featuring a short discussion about technology and business—exploring the realities of startups and busting the myth of overnight success.
  • Bring Your Own Laptop: Don’t forget to bring your laptop equipped with your favorite Python distribution so you can jump straight into the coding fun!

This challenge is not just about coding; it’s about connecting with other developers, building something cool, and having a great time! It’s perfect for anyone interested in Python, from data science enthusiasts to web developers and automation experts.
