Weekly lists on QBW go out on Tuesday and feature books priced $5.99 or less. Author spotlights happen on Friday. Monthly new releases happen on the last day of the month. Dax's personal SFF newsletter goes out every other Thursday.

Visit the Website: https://queerbooksweekly.com

Note to previous guests: if you've previously booked using calendly, don't worry! We still have your booking!

Bundle Promotion

Are you organizing a book bundle? Do you have an Itch.io bundle that is queer themed in some way? Are you putting together a charity bundle you want eyes on, either featuring queer books or to raise money for a queer cause? Wherever you are hosting the bundle, we can probably promote it!

Have your bundle promoted in the weekly Deals and Steals on Tuesdays!

Our AI policy extends to all items in the bundle. If the bundle contains 1 work which has a cover created with generative AI or the text was written by generative AI, then you cannot promote your bundle in QBW.

Our anti-hatred policy applies to all books, as well.

Bundle must have a base price of $30 or less. It can have higher tiers, so long as at least one tier is $30 or less.

Heat Levels / Spice Rating:
Please see our About page for the full details on how we rate spiciness. We allow all spice levels, we just ask that they be labeled appropriately so our readers can make the most informed choice for whatever reading mood they are in at the time.

AI policy:
The use of large language models is prohibited for works included on QBW. The use of other technologies that use the "AI" marketing label but do not create content for you is allowed, such as speech-to-text assistive technologies that have been around for decades but use AI as a marketing label; features in Photoshop or Affinity that algorithmically make changes to the photo such as filters, cloning, or color swapping, etc; grammar and spelling checker features which have been around for years before LLMs became publicly available, etc. We recognize that there are many technologies, apps, and programs that many have been using since well before Chatgpt and Midjourney that aren't in anyway similar to those but decided they needed to add "AI" to their name. We don't get it either but 🤷

Who's running this, and how do I know you're not someone collecting info for nefarious purposes?

Why are you charging for this?
This is really more of a 'tip jar' situation. It costs money to host the website, renew the domain, etc. If you want to give me a few dollars as a thanks, I will list you first. I'll never charge for regular spots as I want this to be an accessible and free way for creative writers to show off their work. I do still have to eat like anyone else, though.

SFF Spotlight in Dax's Personal Newsletter for Books with Queer and/or Disabled Protagonists

This is for Science Fiction and Fantasy Books ONLY. This goes out in my personal newsletter and will not appear on Queer Books Weekly. My personal newsletter is focused on SFF books and the few times I've tried to promote other genres in it, it didn't get any traction.

Sign up to have your book promoted in my personal newsletter. My newsletter subscribers enjoy epic and high fantasy books but are also into space fantasy, space operas, and science fiction of other flavors! I feature two spotlights in my newsletter: one for LGBTQIA SFF and one for SFF with disabled protagonists.

If your book is speculative fiction (fantasy, science fiction, horror, space opera, space fantasy, paranormal, urban fantasy, etc!) and features a protagonist that:
  • has a disability, chronic illness, mental illness, etc
  • and/or is LGBTQIA
Please apply!

I will accept links to books that are reader magnets, review copy sign-ups, or books available for purchase or preorder.

I have two spots available per email so that each book gets the space it needs to shine. My newsletter goes out every other Thursday.

I accept spicy books, but at this time, I do not accept erotica. It's not the genre I write nor the genre my readers enjoy.

I do a cursory review of all books submitted and reserve the right to reject any books that I feel do not fit the criteria.

It doesn't matter what time slot you select, there isn't any actual meeting. This is just the rough timeframe that my newsletter is sent out!

If you want to join my newsletter, you can do so at join.daxmurray.com, but I will try to send you the archive link for the campaign in which your book was featured.

Want to know what these promos look like? Here's a spotlight for Chameleon Moon during the Queer Your Bookshelf event, one for Ishtar's Blade from a Sword and Sandal event, and a double feature for Rarkyn's Fall and the Shadow Thief, the latter of which was part of the Sapphic September event.

You do not have to feature or promote any of my books in return, but I would appreciate it if you did! I understand that not all authors have their own newsletter and/or not on social media. If you do want to promote my books, you can promote my free reader magnet Scorched Scars, or the Universal Book Link for Stars and Soil. Thank you!

NO AI COVERS. This is done on an honor system, but if I find out that you have lied, I will not feature any of your future books. Please be honest! If you are a low-income author and need an affordable cover, please check out GetCovers. They do ebooks for $10 USD and paperbacks for $35 USD. I hired GetCovers for Stars and Soil, Scorched Scars, and Smoke and Steel. They are a small company in Ukraine that trains junior designers and recent design school graduates. They do not use AI in their process and they do fabulous work.

Why is this paid and why is there only one spot?
I want this section to be truly special, so I am limiting to one spotlight per week. These spotlights do take up a little bit more time than the weekly and monthly lists, and I still have to pay bills and eat. I am trying to keep it as affordable as possible, though while still being able to cover maintenance and hosting costs.

Unlike our Tuesday Deals posts, there is no price ceiling - works can be more than $5.99
Details:
Celebrate pride month with stories often forgotten and erased. Your book will be featured on our blog and will be posted to our BlueSky account. You can submit as many books as you like. Unlike all our other events, the books MUST be Own Voices.
  • Books don't have to be books. They can be serials, novellas, short stories, interactive fiction, visual novels, poetry chapbooks, microfiction, etc. It does not have to be available on Amazon.
  • If it's ownvoices, you're good. No restrictions on fiction or non-fiction.
  • The works submitted must not condone or endorse racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, acephobia, ableism, xenophobia, etc. The works can explore and examine those prejudices, but must not advocate for them.
  • No fascists, no nazis.

Instructions:
  • This promotion will be posted on June 30th
  • Select the time slot - it's all the same time slot and I have it set up to take 10000 submissions so... If it fills up, I will be very happy.
  • Fill out the form!
  • The form asks for 5 retailer links. You don't need to provide 5! If you just want to provide one universal book link, that's fine. If you want to link to every serial site your web novel is on, that's fine! If you only want to link to Itch, Amazon, and Kobo, that's also fine! Also fine if you just want to link to your direct store. It's up to you!
  • Please provide a link to somewhere I can download your cover. I like to display the cover as part of the listing and it makes it much easier if you provide a link. This can be from a cloud storage drive, an image sharing site like snap.as or even the link to the image on your own website! Thanks!
  • Please use separate submissions for each of your books!

AI policy:
The use of large language models is prohibited for works promoted on QBW.
