Failing to file can result in hefty fines or penalties. Don't wait until the last minute!What is the BOI?It’s a required report to help the government track who controls and benefits from your company, enhancing transparency in business.Who needs to file?All LLCs and many other legal entities formed or registered in the U.S.!The penalties for not filing a Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) report with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) include civil and criminal penalties:Civil penaltiesThe fine for each day a BOI report is late is $591, as of January 25, 2024. This penalty accumulates quickly.Criminal penaltiesFor willful violations, the penalties include up to two years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Willful violations include failing to file a report, submitting false information, or failing to update previously reported information.The BOI report is required by the U.S. federal government to disclose the owners of a business. The Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) mandates BOI reporting.
